Benchmarking

Benchmarking is a methodology to compare performance either within an organization or between different organizations. In order to benchmark one company against another one on the market, a statistical baseline must be defined. This is done by defining a specific indicator as a metric. Market share is a typically used benchmark key performance indicator. The market leader can act as "benchmark" and all other market participants are compared against the market leader in terms of market share.
