The customer development concept was originally introduced by Steve Blank in his book "The Four Steps to the Epiphany". It offers a methodology to learn and iterate new business ideas in close connection to the market and the potential customers. It is therefore an [outside](http://outside.in)-in alternative to classical inside-out product development, not replacing it completely but prioritizing feature development with research and test results. In more mature business models the basic concept can be re-engineered into Growth Hacking operations.
