Private Equity

Private Equity refers to private equity capital, i.e. a form of equity capital in which the shareholding acquired by the private equity investor is not tradable at an organised market (e.g. a stock exchange). Usually, private equity refers to equity provided by private and/or institutional investors (e.g. private equity funds) by virtue of which such investor acquires shares in another company for a limited period of time in order to generate a profit.
